Public Candidates Discussion – Thursday, July 25th, 2013

The Mimico Residents Association (MRA) is hosting a candidates discussion for the upcoming Provincial Etobicoke-Lakeshore byelection. The event will take place at Mimico Presbyterian Church (119 Mimico Avenue, Etobicoke) on Thursday, July 25th, from seven until nine pm.

The candidates attending will be P.C. Choo (NDP), Doug Holyday (PC), Hans Kunov (Libertarian), Peter Milczyn (LIB) and Angela Salewski (GPO). The moderator of the event will be the President of the MRA, Kyra Trainor.

Questions for the candidates will be submitted in writing at the event, or in advance on the MRA Facebook page, via the MRA website at MimicoResidents.ca, or via email to info@mimicoresidents.ca.

This meeting is open to the press and the general public. Rogers Media and CTV will be filming the event. The goal of the meeting is to provide an opportunity for candidates to discuss local issues and answer questions from residents.

The Mimico Residents Association’s mandate is to promote measures which enhance the character, safety, and environmental viability of Mimico while improving the quality of residential and economic life in and around the area. The MRA also strives to inform and engage residents, and supports community projects which advance the above objectives.

  1. Question for candidate debate:
One of the most contentious issues in South Etobicoke is the ravaging advance of development and the destruction of neighbourhoods as we know them. In February 2012, Mr. Milcyzn and Mr. Holyday voted on several motions for Toronto and its challenges at the OMB. Can you please state your position on this issue and what you would do to try and change the status of the OMB as an MPP?
